Identity & Privileged Access Security Stack

People, applications, administrators and suppliers need access to business systems. Without consistent authentication and permission ownership, compromised or stale accounts may expose more than intended.

This page shows possible product roles and alternatives, not a fixed bill of materials. Final selection depends on your existing infrastructure, risk profile, budget, licences, technical requirements and compatibility.

The business problem

Why this security area matters

Identity controls reduce unnecessary access and strengthen authentication. Ordinary user identity management and privileged access management solve related but distinct problems; not every organisation needs a separate PAM platform.

How organisations become exposed

Shared administrator accounts, inactive leaver accounts, broad permissions, weak MFA coverage and unowned service accounts create avoidable risk. Adding multiple identity products without understanding existing subscriptions can create conflicting policies.

Who should consider this stack?

Microsoft 365 or cloud users, hybrid organisations, businesses with third-party access, administrator accounts, mergers, rapid growth or repeated assurance questions about MFA and access reviews.

How to compare options

  • • Compatibility with existing infrastructure and licences.
  • • Security requirements, coverage and integration needs.
  • • Operational overhead, alert ownership and support requirements.
  • • Implementation effort and budget, confirmed in a tailored proposal.

How the stack works together

From visibility to continuous improvement

  1. 01Inventory users, administrators, applications, service accounts and external access.
  2. 02Use the existing identity platform for MFA and access policies where suitable.
  3. 03Separate privileged activity from daily accounts and define approval/expiry.
  4. 04Add a dedicated PAM platform only where the risk and operational need justify it.
  5. 05Review access ownership and exceptions as people and systems change.

Example architecture to assess

For many Microsoft-based environments, begin with existing Microsoft identity capabilities, consistent MFA and least privilege. Consider dedicated PAM as a separately evaluated layer for high-impact administrator accounts, not a default add-on. Check Point secure access may complement network controls.

Alternatives and optional layers

Microsoft Entra is a current ecosystem option. CyberArk, BeyondTrust, Okta and Cisco Duo are not verified AOS partner or delivery offerings in this project; list only as market possibilities after sourcing and capability checks.

How AOS can help

Advice, scope and delivery boundaries

AOS can discuss identity, remote access and account exposure as part of the free 30-minute cybersecurity review, then scope improvements around current identity platforms and secure-access capabilities. Dedicated identity governance or PAM product implementation must be confirmed separately.

Questions & answers

Frequently asked questions

Is MFA enough to secure identities?

No. MFA strengthens authentication but does not replace least privilege, account lifecycle controls, session oversight or access reviews.

Do all organisations need PAM?

Not necessarily. The case depends on administrator risk, account volume, operational constraints and the controls already available in the identity platform.

Can identity security work with existing applications?

Compatibility varies by application and authentication method. Validate each important dependency and plan staged changes.
