Key takeaways
- •Read the current official requirements and scope.
- •Understand the five control areas and how they apply to your IT.
- •Keep evidence accurate and aligned to the assessment boundary.
- •Treat certification as one part of a wider security programme.
Use official current guidance
Requirements and assessment rules can change. Consult the NCSC and IASME Cyber Essentials resources for the current version, scope and process rather than relying on an old checklist.
Certification is not total protection
A certification addresses its defined scope and controls; it does not guarantee that an organisation cannot be attacked or that every cyber risk is addressed. Wider governance, detection, response, suppliers and recovery still matter.
Prepare through an honest gap review
Confirm which devices, users, cloud services and networks fall in scope. Identify gaps, assign owners and make sure answers reflect the configuration actually in place.
Get the right advice
AOS provides compliance support for Cyber Essentials and Cyber Essentials Plus, alongside technical recommendations. This support is not certification, legal advice or a guarantee of passing an assessment.
