Vulnerability & Exposure Management Stack

Technology estates change constantly. Teams may know vulnerabilities exist but lack a reliable asset inventory, context about business importance or time to remediate every finding.

This page shows possible product roles and alternatives, not a fixed bill of materials. Final selection depends on your existing infrastructure, risk profile, budget, licences, technical requirements and compatibility.

The business problem

Why this security area matters

Exposure management connects asset visibility, vulnerability prioritisation and threat intelligence to a workable remediation plan. A scanner alone produces findings; people still need to validate scope, ownership and priority.

How organisations become exposed

Unknown internet-facing assets, unsupported software, long patch backlogs and repeated audit findings can leave weaknesses open. Scanning must be authorised, scoped and operated safely.

Who should consider this stack?

Organisations with a growing estate, cloud migration, recurring audit findings, supplier questionnaires or limited security capacity to prioritise remediation.

How to compare options

  • • Compatibility with existing infrastructure and licences.
  • • Security requirements, coverage and integration needs.
  • • Operational overhead, alert ownership and support requirements.
  • • Implementation effort and budget, confirmed in a tailored proposal.

Inside the stack

Possible components and their roles

A candidate configuration for discussion. Core options, alternatives and optional layers are labelled so competing products are not presented as a default bundle.

How the stack works together

From visibility to continuous improvement

  1. 01Agree in-scope assets, cloud accounts, external surfaces and exclusions.
  2. 02Review existing inventories and vulnerability sources for coverage and quality.
  3. 03Prioritise using exposure, asset criticality, threat context and operational constraints.
  4. 04Assign owners, remediation actions, exceptions and review dates.
  5. 05Track closure and newly discovered assets; use technical testing only when separately scoped.

Example architecture to assess

Start with existing asset and vulnerability data and Check Point exposure management categories where suitable. Add one discovery/scanning platform only if it improves a defined coverage or workflow gap. Do not stack multiple scanners without a clear operational reason.

Alternatives and optional layers

Microsoft security capabilities may provide relevant visibility in supported estates. Tenable, Qualys and Rapid7 are market alternatives not confirmed as AOS offerings. Technical scanning, penetration testing and formal audits are distinct activities.

How AOS can help

Advice, scope and delivery boundaries

AOS offers exposure management covering attack surface visibility, vulnerability prioritisation and threat intelligence. Scanning method, assets, authorisation, cadence and technical depth must be explicitly agreed. A free 30-minute cybersecurity review is not a vulnerability scan or penetration test.

Questions & answers

Frequently asked questions

Is vulnerability scanning a penetration test?

No. Scanning and penetration testing are different methods, with different scope and risk. Neither should be assumed without explicit agreement.

Can you fix every finding?

Priorities, operational dependencies and change windows matter. A useful programme identifies what to address first and tracks agreed remediation.

Will a scanner find every asset?

No tool guarantees exhaustive discovery. Scope, network access, cloud accounts and ownership all affect what can be found.
